meet the maker

hi, I’m clara

Designer │ Maker

After working in London as a designer in the Fashion industry (2007-2019), I became tired with how quickly clothing became dispensable and how unethical the entire cycle was. My passion for being in the industry was disappearing each day I worked, it didn’t feel good to be contributing to such an old-fashioned system. I also realised that the more senior I was becoming, the less creative I was being and suddenly life was about meetings about the next meeting and I was rarely putting pencil to paper.

It wasn’t an easy decision as it wasn’t like I just suddenly wanted to stop ‘doing’ Fashion, I still loved Fashion but it had to be responsible, creative fashion. As if I was back at university and interpreting briefs in entirely my own way with no other influence.

In April 2019, I decided to leave the industry and dived straight into turning my life-long hobby of designing and creating products from my imagination, into a full-time business!

products

Since 2005, I had been making cute little pouches for friends and family to help compartmentalize the items in their handbags and around the home but mostly as an alternative to disposable packaging. These later evolved to personalized versions which were purchased by other small businesses as a way to beautifully present their own products and I now offer several other designs in shapes and sizes, as well as offering completely customised options.

You can also find reworked vintage and handmade clothing made with remnant fabrics and other whimsical goods.

philosophy & sustainability

I believe that products should be circular. In a nutshell, this means that anything that is produced, should be intended to remain in society for as long as possible...and not thrown away simply because it is ‘not on trend’.

Everything is created in my home and packaged with biodegradable and/or recyclable materials when possible.

Longevity and sustainability is at the forefront of my mind when creating.

inspiration

Hugely influenced by the beautiful painting of ‘Ophelia’, by Sir John Everett Millais, Six Acre Meadow was born out of an obsession with all things feminine, whimsical but most importantly, sustainable.

My background in Fashion Design coupled with my love for all things vintage and nostalgic aesthetics are showcased throughout everything I create, and all with thoughtful consideration to the planet.
