rebranding my business

My About page explains how I’ve had my business as a hobby for 12 years, before I decided to concentrate on it in 2019 when I left my full-time role in the fashion industry. Last month was my 1 year anniversary of being self-employed and it was time I gave it a much needed rebrand!

My previous name was made up and didn’t mean anything to me, I don’t even want to mention it here! I needed a new name to compliment my aesthetic which is feminine and whimsical. I have been fortunate enough to wake up every day working on something I loved, so it was really important that I loved the name too as I felt as my old name was holding me back and was really uninspiring!

It wasn’t as easy as I thought. I had to go back to the drawing board and brainstorm. Writing down keywords, even reading a dictionary! I eventually looked back on my main influence which is the ‘Ophelia’ painting by Sir John Everett Millais. When I’m working on my whimsical upcycled pieces, I constantly think;

Would Ophelia wear this?

Being the crux of my inspiration, I knew the name would have to be associated with her/the painting, but not in an obvious way, so I decided to do a deep dive into the story around the painting and the people involved. I discovered so many things and so many films made based around this which I need to watch some day!

I quickly discovered that the location of the painting was in a place called Six Acre Meadow in Surrey, and it was just so perfect. It really made sense to me. The pieces I upcycle, the vintage items I offer, all sync with this name. It even reminded me of my ribbon-bound notebooks that I used to make and made me want to revisit them again!
